No thirty-page memos

Mukesh Kumar founded Clavix on a simple observation: business owners do not want a thirty-page memo, they want to know where they stand and what to do next. His practice sits deliberately on the crossroads of corporate law and real estate, because that is where his clients live: holdings with property in the structure, shareholders in conflict over a building, investors dealing with Dutch tenants, contractors and creditors.

He was admitted to the Dutch bar in 2022 and is registered with the Netherlands Bar Association (Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten) for corporate law, real estate law (covering construction law, neighbour law, easements and leasehold) and civil procedure, which carries a mandatory requirement of ten continuing education points a year in each registered field. What does "mr." mean?

The Dutch title "mr." (meester in de rechten) is not the English "Mister": it is the protected academic title for holders of a Dutch law degree, comparable to LL.M., and by convention it precedes the name of every Dutch attorney. So "mr. M. Kumar" simply identifies him as a fully qualified Dutch lawyer.

He works in Dutch and English. Proceedings before the Dutch courts are conducted in Dutch; international clients receive English summaries at every step, and all advice and contracts can be delivered in English.

How he works

You deal directly with the lawyer who handles your matter. Fees are agreed before the engagement starts, wherever possible as a fixed fee per phase, and advice comes with a recommendation rather than a menu of options. When a case is better served by settling than by litigating, he will say so.
